TGIF!

So I've been meaning to post my updates ~ I am soo excited I finally kicked my allergies. No more sitting at my desk at work with a wet cloth on my eyes and the lights out & the shades drawn. By noontime, I was usually starting my second box of kleenex. One of the assistants at work had suggested to me a ton of times to eat wasabi straight and that will help clear stuff. Of course, by the 4th week of these allergies, I would have tried just about anything. So I went to the grocery store and grabbed a big wad of it and ate a chunk. After a little wasabi therapy and some nose spray stuff from the doctor, I'm all good.

Oct 7th was a little scary for all of us; apparently I've been sitting too long at my day job and that caused a problem for the little baby's lunchbox (aka: placenta but for some reason I hate that word ) On Sunday I had a little spotting, and to be safe, Patrick and I went right to the hospital. I was put on bedrest for a few days with a couple follow-ups with our regular doctor, and everything is thankfully back to normal. But I will say, so far it's been hit or miss with the people at Providence St. Joseph's.

I'll keep it simple but here's a great example: After the 20 minute ultrasound, where the tech gave us the heartbeat, Patrick even saw the little baby moving and stretching; she asked me if I have had a pregnancy test yet. Seriously. Did she not just see a 13-14 wk old baby? I looked around to see if by chance there was an empty bottle of vodka or something, but nothing that she could have been drinking. Patrick straightened her out. So I'm just hoping that the wingnuts that we came by that day are taking the day off we have our little baby in April! But that was just one example ...

Kurty has decided after 7 years, he's moving in with a buddy of his & a huge dog around Nov 1st. He's taking Zena with him, which I'm sure Patrick is excited about, he's had quite a round of kitty crap duty since I can't touch it now. And he does like Zena better than Cole (Sorry Sheri!) he's definitly no where near being labeled a cat-lover. While we're sad to see Kurt go, it'll be cool to start the rooms. Thank God we have a 5 gallon bucket of primer to cover up red paint . I've put the final coat of paint on almost all of the crown molding in the living room & dining room. Its crazy how it changed those two rooms. I'm hunting for two new ceiling fans & then the rooms will be all set. I can't wait to pull down those 1973 fans that are in there now! The top bases are rusted and junky so that will totally lift the room.

Okay, hope everyone has a sweet weekend & I'll post soon!

Jay Leno's 1907 Steam Engine Breaks Down Infront of our House!

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I think everyone knows I've had a tight relationship lately with a box of kleenex, puff plus and benadryl, so I'm a tad behind.

On Saturday (10/6) Patrick and I decided to take a trip to the La Brea Tarpits off Wilshire/La Brea. It is really cool to see prehistoric tar pits and sloths in the middle of Los Angeles, but I'm only recommending it to people who forgot what freshly laid asphalt & tar smells like, because you have to really really like that smell to forget that you just drove an hour and a half through a hot, sweaty Hollywood just to go 10 miles to get there.

But the very cool end of the day, after driving back through traffic hell, we pulled up to our house to see a 1907 bright red Steam Engine come to its final chugs right infront of our little house on Pepper St! It seems Jay Leno added to his car collection a few weeks back and this was it's first run with his mechanic. Patrick got to have a little small-talk with him while they tried and figure out just why the steam engine was blowing out flames and not steam. After a little bit and a crowd started to gather, Jay waved down a Domino's Pizza delivery car, asked the guy for a ride up the street and was gone. The mechanic guy put some insulation/marshmellow/putty stuff in some pipe, and after another half hour, began chugging down the street & waved as he left.

Fall Fall Fall

So far, no hiccups with the 13th week! I'm definitly showing more now, and can only fit into one pair of my lucky jeans and my last pair of black banana pants. I'm starting to get over my allergies a little more, believe it or not it's only 65 degrees here in Burbank ~ it's almost sweatshirt weather!

So fall is here & I'm starting to decorate a little more for halloween at the house. When I got back last night and was unlocking the house just after sunset, I happened to see a huge spider web in the moonlight and noticed a monster black widow right in the middle of it. The web was huge - it started from the willow tree, attached to the house (infront of the picture windows) and then back down to some of the plants. I swear, this one was about the size of a quarter - swaying in the wind. I freaked. Even though I'm a total Animal Planet girl, I know black widows lay a ton of eggs pretty fast, and since I was the only one home, I had to fight it.

We definitly don't have the best outdoor lighting at our house, so I grabbed Patrick's mag-light and the spider killer spray and snuck up on the black widow and sprayed the crap out of him. I made sure I sprayed with the wind too because that stuff stinks. When we use the spider killer on regular spiders, they drop instantly. But with black widows, depending on their size, the can go for about 5 minutes ~ spinning webs everywhere, going nuts. I was just hoping the wind wouldn't knock the little sucker at me. After about 5-6 minutes, this guy finally dropped into the darkness, and I ran into the house (did a major clothes check too just incase he stuck to me). See, I think that's one reason why people buy annuals ~plants that come back every year. Who wants to go digging around gardens when there's soo many spiders that can kill you? Bleck. Bleck. Bleck.

Last night I bought a remote control rat from Target and stuck it underneath the couch to get Patrick when he got home from work. The rat w/ electric red eyes turned out to be alot of work ~ I had no idea the stupid thing would take a 9volt battery, plus every other battery in the house. So lots of trips back to the grocery store & hoping I get home intime to still spook Patrick. Which worked, I had the lights super low, he was just getting to the couch to watch Survivor when I let the rat run - he completely jumped and the cat flipped out too.

And finally, last weekend I put up the crown molding in the livingroom & diningroom. Patrick and Kurty had to help me with the big pieces, but I took Nils' advice and it went awesome. We rented a nail gun and I swear - I nailed everything! So this weekend, I'll finish off with the filler & paint and that project will be set. I've been reading online how to tile so Patrick and I will hit that within a few weeks!!

Okay, hope everyone is doing great. I miss seeing the leaves turn in Maine!!
